Vittorio D΄Onofri, Lanuvio (Roma, Italia) 1960
In 1985 Vittorio D’Onofri began to forge his life as an artist/photographer, receiving a diploma in photography from the European Institute of Design in 1991 in Rome, Italy. From 1985 to 1993 he studied painting and art history in New York with artists of the Action Painting group, Tony Lucchesi and Fulvio Palombo. During the same period he participated in 8 workshops for the development of creativity through non-verbal communication in different parts of Italy.
In 1995 he moved to Oaxaca, México, where he currently resides. He has shown his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions in México, Italy, Germany, Spain, USA, and France.
In the month of April 2016 was published his first personal book of photographs "Corner" edited by the Secretary of the Arts and Cultures of the State of Oaxaca, Mexico.
In 2013 he was chosen to participate in the 5th cycle of the International Photography Prize, "Prix Pictet," London, England (the global award in photography and sustainability); in 2012 he won 3rd place in the first contest of Contemporary Photography organized by the Fundación de Artes y Cine de México, Saltillo, México; in 2002 he was selected for "Foto-encuentro Guanajuato" for a series of exhibitions in the Mexican Republic which included the project "Muxhe Completo" (an intimate documentary photo collection of transsexuals from Juchitán de Zaragoza), Guanajuato, México; in 2001 he received honorable mention in the 4th Biennial of Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, Daily Life category, México D.F.; in 1991 he won 3rd place and honorable mention for the best interpretation of the theme in the international competition, Francis Gamichon, Paris, France.
He is the creator and coordinator of the Biennial of Photography Oaxaca (2014 and 2016 editions) and FOTOAX, Oaxaca International Photography Meeting (2016 edition).
His photos are included in both collections and archives: Fototeca Nacional del INAH (National Library), Pachuca; Centro Fotográfico Álvarez Bravo in Oaxaca; Biennial of Journalistic and Documentary Photography, Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City; Instituto Estatal de la Cultura, Guanajuato.
His photographic projects most important are: 2017... "Displaced persons"; 2016... "The Sacrifice"; 2010-2015 "Acidu"; 2010-2013 "Cars"; 2009-2014 "Microwave landscape"; 2005-2017 "From the corners"; 2000-2005 "Cangrejo Beach", Oaxaca, Mexico; 2000... "Coming back home"; 1997-2003 "Muxhe". From 1997 to 2002 he was the printer in the workshops of Mary Ellen Mark in Oaxaca.
From 1997 to 2003 he was the coordinator of workshops and a teacher of photography at the Centro Fotográfico Manuel Álvarez Bravo in Oaxaca. He has also taught photography at: the Instituto Ciencias de la Educación, UBAJO, Oaxaca; Escuela Activa de Fotografía, Oaxaca; Fototeca de Monterrey, Nuevo León; Centro de Las Artes in San Agustin Etla, Oaxaca. He was a founding member of photographer groups, "Luz 96," Oaxaca, 1996; the agency of photographic services, "Itzam", Oaxaca, 1997; the photographic group and civil association, "VISIVE BC", 2002; an association of independent photographers, "Trama.org" 2014.
Currently coordinates and teaches in the workshops of the University of Maryland, (Washington), USA, in Oaxaca and continues to work in different projects of photographs and is writing a screenplay for a feature film.
